*** This is rich black sand from the historic area of Gold Beach, Oregon. The beaches ran rich in gold in the early mining days, and they still do from time to time during big winter storms. You\'ll see in the pictures below how and where I found I this black sand. I hiked in over 1/2 mile to find this deposit and carried the sand out in a back pack. I would have gladly mined it right there, but there wasn\'t any water (and no, you can\'t pump water from the ocean here like you can in Nome AK....it\'s way too rough here). So instead I packed it out and decided to offer it on .

*** Collectors especially will appreciate this sale as to my knowledge no one\'s ever offered this type of rich black sand, straight off the beach, until now. Most guys spike their concentrates in order for it to carry some bit of gold, and other guys just add gold to barren sand and gravel. What\'s so great about that? This is the real McCoy, the kind of black sand that drew thousands to mine these beaches and made many of them wealthy in the end. Please note that there is also a smaller percentage of blonde and lighter sands mixed in with the black sand. This is because you\'re getting this sand directly \'as is\' right out of the paystreak. I am not concentrating it further, nature\'s already done that. But again, though we call this \'black sand\' (because it looks black), there is a small percentage of lighter sands as well.

*** Proportionately, there\'s some natural Platinum with this gold, about 5-10% by weight (see the pics below)

*** Please note that these are not concentrates from a sluice box, already picked over, no, this is the way nature deposits the gold right on the beach. This richblack sand runs between 1-2 OUNCES per ton, and every pound of black sand carries literally many hundreds of tiny bits of gold and platinum! I dont need to spike it because you can\'t pan even a spoonful of this black sand without getting literally dozens of bits of gold dust.

*** NOTE: This is VERY FINE gold. It is GOLD DUST. However, with that said, unlike gold dust found in rivers, this gold is quite easy to pan. Why? If you were to take a good magnifying glass and look at the gold it\'s generally shapped like tiny flying saucers, with the center bowed out somewhat, thus they have surprising weight for their tiny size. Somehow the ocean beats it into this unusual shape, making it easier to pan than the paper thin river gold. But again, this gold is DUST. If you\'re looking for nuggets, please forget this sale. This is all about RICH, HISTORICblack sand just as it comes from the ocean, and again, it runs right about 1-2 ounces per ton.

*** I have lived on the coast for over 10 years now, and I\'m telling you, for whatever reason (climate change? El Nino?), the beaches just don\'t \'run\' with rich black sand like they used to. So I was REALLY LUCKY to come across this rich deposit. The amount of sand I have is limited (I had to pack it all out, about a mile round trip in generally soft sand), so when this is gone, it\'s gone!

Great shot of the deposit this sand came from. This is a beach near Gold Beach, Oregon. This is right after a big winter storm which has stripped the beach down, leaving a lot of rocks and, of course, black sand. The black sand is clearly seen in the lower right hand side of the picture.

This is how the black sand is deposited...in layers. The entire 6\" or so of this deposit here runs well over 1/2 ounce per ton. The blonde looking sand here carries a surprising amount of gold. However, if you carefully take just the richest blacksand it runs 1-2 ounces a ton. And this is the stuff you\'ll be receiving - the richest part of the deposit!

A picture of my little beach sluice after running aprox 125pounds of black sand at home. Yes indeed, that\'s gold packed behind each rubber riffle.

This was the cleanup of the sluice in the picture directly above this one. This is a small gold pan (8\"), but that\'s still right at about 4 grams of gold. This sand came out to right about 2 ounces per ton. The sand you\'ll receive runs at least between 1 to 2 ounces per ton. Oh, that white color running all through the gold towards the top is platinum. It\'s heavier than gold so will hang right up toward the \'head\'.

PS...a bit of history....this deposit was only here for a very short time. About a week. It changed in shape and size every time the tide came in (twice a day). One day I hiked down here to get another backpack full and wham, it was all gone without a trace. So it is withthe nature of gold. Up until a few decades ago, beach mining was an important part of the local economy. When the \"sands would run\" the word would go out and many businesses would just shut down. The loggers, farmers, businessmen would hit the beach and harvest their black sands, hauling it all up above the high-water mark. They would stick a sign in the pile with their name on it, waiting until later to wash the sand when they had more time. No one would touch another man\'s pile, of course.
