8 SAUERBRUNN Family CDV Photographs Circleville Ohio & Des Moines Iowa c.1865:

Each of these eight carte-de-visite photos measures a little under 2 ½ in. by 4 in. (image plus margins). The first two are from the West Main St. studio of Circleville, Ohio photographer M. K. Marshall. The next five are from the studio of “Barnett, Artist” located above the post office in Des Moines, Iowa. The last one, the tinted image of the young girl, has no photographer’s I.D. (unless you happen to recognize the handwritten cancellation on the remains of the revenue stamp).

Each one has some captioning on back identifying the subjects:

1. “Mrs. George Sauerbrunn, Circleville Ohio 1865. A gift to Mr. & Mrs. Peter Mourer in 1867 when they left Ohio and moved to Harrison Co., Iowa.” [Presumably this photo was the gift, not Mrs. Sauerbrunn herself….]

2. “George Sauerbrunn Circleville, Ohio 1865. This couple moved to Dayton, Ohio.\"

3. “Mary Sauerbrunn widow of Mike Sauerbrunn & children, Mary, Kate, Mike, George, Peter & Anna.”

4. “(This photo taken from photograph) Mike Sauerbrunn, died in Ohio. His widow Mary Sauerbrunn & children moved to Des Moines in 1866 or 67.”

5. “Mike Sauerbrunn, Des Moines, Ia. Born Ohio.”

6. “George Sauerrbrunn, Des Moines, born in Ohio.”

7. “Peter Sauerbrunn, Des Moines, Ia.”

8. “Little Annie Sauerbrunn”

Condition - quite a bit of general wear including a gouge in the surface near the top of the fifth image and trimmed margins on the last card; quite a bit of soil/staining as well.
