Brassjali-work, India -dating from thesecond halfof the 19th century.Hand constructed from sheet brass, an octagonal betel (paan) box - the convex cover fitted with a heavy central carry handle, (hinged). The cover hinge is copper and brass riveted - a simple brass wire forms the hinge-pin. A hasp and staple closure catch is mounted to the front face.
The surface is finished with pierced jali-work and \'dot\' punched bands - chiseled and chased decoration is incorporated within shaped panels.Overall size, width - 7 3/4\" (223mm), depth - 5 1/4\" (159mm), height, handle lowered - 4 1/2\" (115mm).

Condition - Very Good. No cracks or repairs. Fine natural colour and patina.
