Islamic Mughal India - dating from the beginning of the 19th century.
A heavy cast copper alloy betel quid box of shaped form - the left and right extremes cast with four lobed or scalloped embellishments.
The press mounting cover is located by a recessed lip to the base opening. A raised cartouche to the cover face is finished with chiseled and punched floral decoration - see image 7.
This example shows signs of significant age - the surface now softly patinated from years of usage.Overall length - 6 1/4\" (159mm), weight - 1,006 grams.

Condition - Very Good. No repairs. Fine natural colour and patina
