An unusual netsuke of a cicada

18th century. Edo period.Signed by Gyokushi.

Resting with wings drawn in, on an old log, the wing veins are carved in delicate relief and dark striations.

Gyokushi is listed in Reikichi 1961, and was best known for his carvings of dragons and demons.

Good condition. 100 % authentic piece dated from the Edo period. Nice color and patina. It is rather difficult to photo a Netsuke, in reality they are much more impressive.
