Description:

AN EXTREMELY FINE COUNTRY CONNECTICUT 18TH CENTURY FEDERAL PERIOD ONE DRAWER CHERRY CANDLE OR NIGHT STAND WITH THE BEST TAPERED SQUARE LEGS AND A NICE BEVELED TOP, NEW ENGLAND, Connecticut, Circa 1780-1810 IN AN OLD MELLOW REFINISHED SURFACE WITH TRACES OF IT ORIGINAL DARK VARNISH.

It has a very nice BEVEL shaped top. Great tapered square legs. The feet are fully intact and all original. Great dovetailed drawer construction. It has finely cut beaded ends to the aprons. The tapering legs are extremely delicate and end to the size of a dime.

Nice old Refinished surface that still shows traces of the original old dark varnish. It has a nice mellow color and patina.

It has great pegged construction throughout. The 3/4\" Cherry Two Board Top is bevel cut to nearly 3/8\".

The drawer is all dovetailed and still retains its original square nails. The two cast brass pulls appear to be original, however there is evidence of another center knob.

ALL THE NAILS ARE HAND WROUGHT SQUARE HEADED EXAMPLES.

Great old color underneath.

A WONDERFUL \"COUNTRY\" VERSION OF A MORE FORMAL DESIGN.

Typical wear associated with the age of the item. The piece was refinished in the early 20th century.
The two board top was once removed and dovetailed together for added strength. There is a slight warp to the front of the top, see photos. The last collector tried to glue it down, (evidence of old glue) but it needs to be nailed.

26 1/2\" tall, the two board top is 17 1/2\" deep and 18\" wide.
