A Fantastic Large Vintage Genuine Argillite HaidaCarving Signed Totem Pole?

This fantastic carving is made from genuineArgillite and is not resin or plastic.

The carving appears to be a short totem pole typecarving although it may be something else.

The carving is as I bought it I have not tried toclean it. The reason I mention this is that although the carving is black incolour it has grey texture layers on it. I know very little about argillitecarvings but from what I have read this may be old water damage where the piecehas been wrongly washed or cleaned. I have provided a lot of images to show thecondition of the carving so please study these carefully before offerding. All images below can be enlarged by clicking them as required.

The piece has some wear to the back and has somechips to the base and a few pieces of rubbing/wear in other parts.

The piece is signed to the base as shown. Thissignature is faded.

The carving measures approximately 21cm high x approximately9.7cm wide x approximately 7.7cm deep and weighs approximately 1235 grams.

The carving is very high quality and would make agreat addition to any collection. It would probably benefit from a professionalclean or restoration but I will leave that for the next person as I know thesethings need special care and attention.
