Antique glass in good taste – harmic.little A beautiful German blown glass \'punning flask\' painted in
polychrome enamels with a gentleman on one side drinking
a glass of wine and a humorous rhyme in Old / High
German language on the other; Germany, circa 1760.  This is the most delightful and amusing flask you will ever come across, both in terms of its vibrant colors and its social / historical appeal. The flask is free blown and square in form with canted or chamfered corners which form an irregular octagon through the section. The front of the flask is beautifully painted with a gentleman dressed in a tricorn hat, bright red jacket and blue stockings. The reversehas a rhyme in old or \'high\' German with the phrase: Liebe vu (du) mich wie ich dichwhich translates as: Love me as I love you. Naturally the pun is referring to his love of wine as much as his love of women. The flask is 4 5/8 inches tall and has a pewter collar which would have originally had a screw top. These flasks were probably given as humorous gifts on birthdays and anniversaries to wives or lovers. The condition is absolutely superb with no chips, cracks or restoration - a beautiful addition toany private collection or dealer\'s inventory or just a wonderful display item.Thank you for offerding on this wonderful flask and good luck!  Insurance is included with shipping. Absolutely guaranteed authentic.
