A Pair of Georgian English Sterling Master Salts, by Edward Thomason, 1818

This is a lovely pair of Georgian master salts, boat-shaped with high polish exteriors banded around the tops with with bead rims.

The large, deep, boat-shaped wells stand on a slender, columnar pedestal mounted to a raised, high-polish rectangular base .

These salt cellars would be an elegant addition to a well-appointed formal dining table.

Marked: On the back of the band at the bottom of the base with the assays for 1818, Birmingham, sterling, England, and the makers' mark for Edward Thomason who first registered as a silversmith in Birmingham in 1815 (pictured).

Measures: 2 1/4" H x 2" W at the centre x 3 3/4" L .

Excellent condition: A few tiny black salt marks and minor patination commensurate with age (pictured).
