A LEGAL DOCUMENT AUTOGRAPHED BY SIGNER JAMES WILSON

JAMES WILSON (c. 1741-1798).Wilson,born in Scotland,was a Pennsylvanialawyer. He attended the ConstitutionalCongress and signed the Declaration of Independence. He also signed by Constitution and served asone of the first Supreme Court Justices.

ADS.1pg. 8 ¼” x 6 ¼”. July 1772. Cumberland County [Pennsylvania]. A partly-printed legal autograph documentsigned “Wilson” on the verso and signed “John Agnew” on thefront. Wilson engrossed much of thefront, including “WE Command you, that ofthe Goods and Chattles, Lands and Tenements, of George Wingler late of yourCounty Yeoman in your Bailiwick, you cause to be made, as well the sum of EightPounds Fourteen Shillings Lawful Money of Pennsylvania, which William Lyon EsqrAsnee [sic] of Wm Abernathy lately inour County Court of Common Please, before our Justices at Carlisle, recoveredagainst him of Debt, as Twenty one shillings & five pence which to saidWilliam Lyon in our same Court were adjudged for his Damages…”. There is more Wilson writing, as well as hissignature, on the verso. There are twovertical folds with light toning, the ink is dark, as is the Wilson signature. It is in fine condition overall.
