A Rare Inscribed Chinese Bronze Figure of a Seated Deity, Ming Dynasty:
$1268.22

The inscription to the reverse translates as:

\'Li Ben and (wife) Liu, devotee from Mingfu village, Tang prefecture, Baoding Fu, commissioned this Buddha, may it endows good fortune as one wishes\'

Size- Approx 16cm high x 11.5cm wideWeight - Approx 1 KG
Condition- The figure shows evidence that it was once lacquered and gilded. This was typical practice for bronzes during the Ming period. Some of the gilding and lacquer still remains on the figure as seen in the photographs. It appears that one section of the decoration at the right arm is missing (opposite the bird on the left arm) Also one very minor section of the left ear appears to be missing too. These appear to be old damages as the patina of the bronze continues over the exposed breaks. There are also some minor nibbles to the bottom rim of the lotus base. Otherwise the figure is in good antique condition with signs of use and age related wear throughout.
It\'s rare to find such paneledinscriptions on bronzes on this type as most pieces in my experience are inscribed either to the back torso or front lotus base.
