CELEBRATINGOVER 20 YEARS OF SELLING INTERNATIONALLY ON

In this lot we are pleased tooffer a superbly rendered bronze sculpture of Anak Raja or son of the king fromthe Majapahit Dynasty and dating circa late 13th to 14thcentury AD. This museum quality bronzeis from either central or Eastern Java.

This highly appealing bronzesculpture of Anak Raja is rendered with a leather water sack and cup. It has also been suggested that thissculpture is a rare rendering of Ganesha before he lost his head. The cobra sash running cross wise across hisbody lends a great deal of credence to that attribution.

Typical of ancient Javanesebronzes, this is cast in the lost wax method with all the fine details handworked by chasing and chiseling techniques. The fine detailing of thismasterpiece is self evident in our numerous photos presented in ourlisting.

The Majapahit Dynasty was thezenith of artistic achievement in Javanese art history. The perfection of artistic skills achieved bythe artists of this period are comparable and at least equal to thecontemporary works then being created in Renaissance Italy and centralEurope.

This museum quality bronze is 18.25 cm or 7 ¼ inchesin height. It weighs 1 kilo or about 2 pounds.

The condition is excellentand totally original in all respects. Itretains an ancient patina.
