A SUPERB MID 19th CENTURY MOTHER OF PEARL TEA CADDY

Offered for sale is this superb mid 19th century mother ofpearl two compartment tea caddy with faceted sides, on mother of pearl bun feet, andhaving a silver escutcheon and monogramedcartouche. Internally there are two compartments for black and green, having fauxtortoiseshellveneered lids with mother of pearl knobs, where the linings to the tea compartment are in very good condition and many have been replaced at some time?. The main lid has a blue valour lining. Please take time to study all the photographs in order to gain an appreciation of thisbeautiful and quite rare tea caddy.

Ibelievethat this box to be all original (excludingthe teacompartmentlinings) including the silver plated hinges and lock which is in working order with a key.

Conditioncommensuratewith age and use, but having no major damage, lose or missing mother of pearl or previousrestorationwork; there are a few localised insignificant small chips to the mother of pearl (see photos) due to age/use, and joints between the mother ofpearlpanels are infilled with silverwhere at some locations is missing. The fauxtortoiseshell veneer to the compartment lids have a couple of small corner chips, see photos.Please see photographs for overallcondition.
