Padang Highlands: Sumatra, Indonesia -dating from the second half of the 19th century.
Cast using the \'lost wax\' process, of Atchinese form and design.
The shield is of convex form, incorporating a beaded rim. A large central boss is encircled by five similar, but slightly smaller, convex bosses. The raised hollow form boss embellishments are central to complex six pointed star motifs - each of which is cast with repeating scroll form decoration.
The reverse incorporates three integrally cast strap lugs - two of which have at some time been fitted with a wall suspension wire.
Overall diameter - 11 3/16\" (289mm).
Condition - Very Good. The usual casting flaws, detailed by the additional images above. No major dents and no repairs. Fine natural colour and patina.
