Egyptian, possible Syrian, (Damascus) -dating from the 19th century.
Hand constructed from cast and wrought copper alloy, (brass).
Each candlestick rests on a raised and stepped circular base - a threaded coupling centrally locates the shaft. The shafts rise through a series of balusters, terminating at the capital. The capitals are of inverted campana form and incorporate a fixed wax-pan.
The surfaces are finished with an overlay of silver and copper - the metals applied over a chiseled and punched ground to the brass. The applied work incorporates bands of repeating floral scroll-work, interwoven bands of silver, gordian knots and arabesques. The decoration varies in style and form throughout the suite - also a small variation in height, (both of these features are usual with examples from this region).
The finial two images above, detail two inscribed cartouches to largest baluster of one example.Overall height, (average) - 11 3/4\" (298mm).

Condition - Very Good, (untouched). Minor bruises, (a casting flaw to one foot rim foot - present from the time of manufacture). Some signs of wear, consistent with genuine age and usage. Natural colour and patina.
