WE HAVE NEVER SEEN AN AUTHENTIC PERIOD MINIATURE \"SALESMAN\'S\" SAMPLE OF A FEDERAL TWO PART MIRROR WITH ITS ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED REVERSE PAINTING ON GLASS TABLET.
WE DON\'T KNOW IF THIS WAS A SALESMAN\'S SAMPLE OR JUST A MINIATURE EXAMPLE.
IT IS MADE EXACTLY LIKE THE LARGER PIECES.

A WONDERFUL MINIATURE FEDERAL PERIOD 19TH CENTURY TWO PART MIRROR WITH ITS ORIGINAL REVERSE PAINTED TOP TABLET OF A CASTLE AND A RIVER SCENE. THE FRAME IS IN ITS ORIGINAL GRUNGY LEMON GOLD PAINTED SURFACE AND RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL SILVERED MIRROR AND ORIGINAL APPLIED SPLIT SPINDLES AND ITS ORIGINAL CORNER ROSETTES. New York or Western Connecticut, Circa 1830-1850.

THIS IS A VERY RARE PIECE.

THE PAINTED TABLET IS WELL EXECUTED. IT IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL WITH NO CRACKS OR CHIPS AND ALMOST NO LOSSES TO THE PAINT. THE PAINTED SURFACE ON THE MIRROR FRAME IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL WITH THE BEST GRUNGY PATINA. EVERY APPLIED SPINDLE AND CAST BRASS CORNER MEDALLION IS ORIGINAL AS WELL.

The condition is fantastic. THE WOOD IS COMPLETELY INTACT WITH ONLY THE SLIGHTEST OF EDGE WEAR, consistent with its age and use. BOTH THE ORIGINAL PAINTED TABLET AND THE SILVERED MIRROR PLATES ARE STILL INTACT. The backboards are old but probably late 19th century replacements.
