This a one and only chance to buy An extremely rare verge fusee pocket watch of Royal Interest, given by His Royal Highness King William 4th in 1781, to Charles Manning RN when he and the King where both serving as midshipman on board the same ship in the year 1781.

Charles Manning and the Prince were both serving on HMS Prince George in 1780-81 they were around 12-13 years of age. Charles was the son of the renowned scholar and historian theReverend Owen Manning, Charles elder brother William became an MP and some time Director of the Bank of England. Williams son became Archbishop of Westminster and a Cardinal. Little is known of Charles after he left the Navy.

Prince William Henry {later KingWilliam 4th} served on the HMS Prince George from 1779 to 1781, the interesting thing is that he crossed the Atlantic in this ship and was nearly kidnapped by aAmericanship of war.. This was during the time of the War of Independence!It is thought that Charles Manning crossed with him.Charles was serving on HMS Crown in 1791.

Maker Henry Fish London, white enamelled dial with bold blackRoman numerals and quartered hours. Decorative original steel hour & minute hands. Brass fusee movement 32mm. Rose cut diamond &pierced cock spring, decorative balusters and steel side springs. Good square pillars. Movement signed H.Fish and numbered 3372.

Case with London assay marks, windingaperture on reverse has obscuredsome of date letter for London1760, silver maker Martin Dell. Winding aperture with revolving watertight cover applied. Gilt metal dust cover numbered 3372 and signed H.Fish, steel fastening mechanism.

Engraved on the back, Kindly given to Charles Manning R.N by his late majesty King William 4th Prince William Henry, both serving as midshipman on board the same ship in the year 1781.

Condition = Gilt base metal inner pair case with green Morocco style leather [damaged], hair line crack to the face.Outer casewith side studs [Please see photographs] not working in need of a service
