A Fine Late Ming Blue And White Export Square Mukōzuké Serving Dish
Jingdezhen ware (Kosométsuké), Tianqi/Chongzhen, c.1620-1635
very typically heavily potted minyao white porcelain of square form with a wide everted rim and gently curved sides raised on thick square foot, the interior painted in fine bright underglaze cobalt blue with a central double-square panel depicting an extensive riverscape with a solitary figure standing on the riverbank with rockwork and withered tree, two crafts on the foreground, a rocky promontory on the middle ground, a rocky mountain in the distance, the cavetto encircled by flowering sprays, the square rim decorated in darker cobalt blue with flowerheads and scrolling of foliage reserved on lighter cobalt-blue ground, the underside sparsely decorated with sprays of water grass, some kiln-grit adhering to the exterior and interior of the deeply bevelled footring with its edge burnt red, some kiln-grit adhering to the front, heavy mushikui frits to the edge of the glazed rim (as promised), kiln imperfections to the glaze with some glaze sticks to the front, some crazed lines to the underside of the rim (not visible from the front), the rim slightly warped, covered with a pale blue tinged thick glaze in darker hues where thick, some firing cracks, the square dish with its old fitted wood storage box inscribed in ink with "nankin sométsuké kakuzara" to the exterior of the lid, another ink inscription plus an old paper label to the sides of the box, an old ink inscribed note on washi paper, a cloth wrap

The heavily potted atsudé type square porcelain dish is thought to have been manufactured in a private Jingdezhen kiln some time between the late Tianqi and Chongzhen periods very specifically for the Japanese market. The serving dish is an heirloom piece, as it is believed to have been with its very old fitted wood storage box made specifically for storing it in the Edo period and handed down from generation to generation. A letter enclosed in the box is inscribed in ink implies that a set of ten was used for the tea ceremony and the current lot appears to be one of them. The current lot is a slightly earlier Jingdezhen piece than the one that was previously sold here. .

Approximate measurements
16.3 x 16.2 cm (6.41 x 6.37 in) maximum wide, 3.3 cm (1.29 in) maximum high

Condition
Very tipical glaze chips developed from the edge of fritted rim unless otherwise undamaged with no chips, cracks and restoration. Very good ring when tapped. Some old wear to the glaze in general use. The old fitted storage box is very worn in frequent use.

COPYRIGHT
Copyright in all images and written material belongs to the seller (at-asian-art). No part of these written and visual materials may be reproduced without the seller\'s prior consent. ENQUIRIES
Enquiries regarding lots are welcome, which are normally responded in one business day. Any enquiry irrelevant to sales conducted by the seller are not responded under any circumstances. No personal or sensitive information should be included in any enquiry, as relevant communications may be posted to so as to be viewed and shared by other members.

PAYMENT
An invoice including the price of lot(s) plus international shipping with insurance will be e-mailed to the buyer within a day. No extra charges apart from insurance based on the winning offer is added to the invoice.

Payment over $700 USD via IBAN (0017 SAIBJPJT) and IPMO in US dollar are also accepted by prior arrangement. eCheque via PayPal, a type of bank payment is also accepted for those who do not possess a debit or credit card as a backup payment source to your PayPal accounts. Payment via PayPal eCheque usually takes between three and ten business days to process. Bank processing times vary from bank to bank and country to country. Buyers intending to make payment via PayPal are required to comply with the User Agreement For PayPal Service.

Payment is due within a week under normal circumstances unless otherwise agreed with the seller in advance. Non-Paying buyer Form will be filed to automatically when payment is not received within the aforementioned period. A combined shipment can be arranged for multiple purchases so as to save international shipping.

SHIPPING
All goods are shipped worldwide by EMS (International Postal Express Mail Service offered by postal-administration members of the Universal Postal Union) or private couriers in one business day (JST: Japan standard time) on receipt of payment or cleared funds in full. All purchased lots are required to be shipped to the payer\'s address confirmed by PayPal, should payment is made by this on-line intermediary firm. Lots can also be handed over to a winning buyer in person domestically. Delivery time depends on the speed of clearance of goods at Customs, which substantially varies from country to country.

Estimated international shipping based on the total packed weight and destination zones are quoted just below the descriptive information on each item. International shipping quoted is what a shipper charges to the seller in Japan. The actual total EMS postage or private courier charges in JPY and weight of a shipment (grammes) are filled in on a shipment package.

Under the current regulation, international shipping is now required to be quoted in selling goods. Since all goods are despatched from Japan where shipping is obviously charged to the seller in JPY, the latest PayPal\'s official exchange rates when an item is listed to sale must unavoidably be adopted, although the exchange rate adopted may change by the time when an invoice will have been e-mailed to the successful buyer(s). Estimated international shipping in US dollar is based on conversion from JPY to US dollar with the latest exchange rate quoted on the PayPal website and rounded to the nearest US dollar, as many overseas buyers choose PayPal as the principal method of method. Combined shipment can be arranged for multiple purchases to minimise international shipping providing that all goods are packed in one available box.

INSURANCE
Insurance will be based on the total value of a single shipment. A single shipment valued below 20,000 JPY (based on the latest foreign currency exchange rate) is included in the shipping quoted. Insurance for a shipment valued above this threshold will be added to an invoice as seller\'s charges.

IMPORTATION OF MERCHANDISE
Unless otherwise merchandise is shipped domestically, Custom duties based on the declared Customs value of merchandise may be payable and these extra charges are not included in the total price in an invoice. Custom duties rates vary from country to country and all prospective buyers are advised to know what import duties will be with the Customs office of the country to which merchandise is imported. We cannot be held liable for these charges under any circumstances, as they are beyond our control. No import duties are payable for "antiques" in USA.

All lots sold by the seller are subject to laws governing exports from Japan. A single shipment valued above 200,000 JPY requires an Export Permit at Customs in Japan. All necessary permits in exporting goods from Japan are undertaken for purchasers.
