Antique pottery in good taste – harmic.little   A superb lobed Dutch delft / faience / tin glazed fruit bowl of moldedlobed form with flower decoration; Holland, circa 1680 - 1700.  This lobed form, which was made by pressing a rolled slab of clay on to a shaped mold of wood or fired clay, was very popular in both England and Holland in the second half of the seventeenth century. The shape has been excavated on numerous archaeological sites and, in terms of the decoration at least, was directly derived from Chinese Transitional (Ming) porcelain. The products of England and Holland are very hard to tell apart: the absence of a footring is sometimes, but not always, an indicator of English provenance. We think this isa Dutch example. The bowl is only 8 1/4 inches in diameter, quite small for a functional item unless it was used for something small like nuts or grapes. We know that the footring was important in allowing the bowlto be hung on a wall (wire or string could be tied around the footring) and it is probable that these attractive dishes were both functional and aesthetic, which is probably why they have survived in considerable numbers. The condition is very good for such an early piece: you can see the usual chips on the reverse and edge of the bowl in the photographs provided (this is a common affliction of soft-bodied delftware). There are no cracks and there is no restoration - a great decorative and collector\'s item and just the upgrade you were looking for for an important antique fair! Good luck and thanks for offerding!  Absolutely guaranteed authentic. Insurance is included with shipping.
