Offered for sale without reserve is an original 19th century New EnglandMiniature Woven Splint Melon or Buttocks Basket. Beautifully made and in excellent condition with a great untouched surface and warm brown aged ash splints. The thin splints are very tightly woven and also act to secure the bentwood top edge.It has a very secure fixed handle that makes a complete circle and overlaps at the bottom of the basket. There are a couple of age appropriate minor splint breaks and some lashing loss. (See last 2 photos).To the handle top: 7-1/2\" high, 4-1/2\" to basket top, 8\" wide in one direction and 8-3/4\" wide in the other direction.
