AAFA Amish Flame Stitch or Bargello 19th C.Pot Holder or Fabric Trivet, Handsewn:
$35.00
This was purchased from a dealer in early Ohio Amish items and I have never quite seen a pot holder like this. It is quite thick - about 1.5 inches with a rust velveteen or velvet backing that is pieced vertically and has a loop for hanging. It is entirely hand sewn and has a remarkable piece of salmon and sea-green flame stitching to the front, with a few tiny bare spots- less than 1/4 inch, and a few loose pieces of yarn. Light grime-has been used, but all edges secure. Measures approximately 6 inches square, dates to circa 1890s (yarns), although this skill was popular in the first half of the 19th century.
