AMAZING Rare Large 1800’s French Automaton Roullet et Decamps Walking Poodle LR:
$1600.00

Here is another fabulous, large rare, French Roullet et Decamps Mechanical Wind Up automaton made in the later 1800\'s in France by the Roullet et Decomps or RD Factory. This poodle is in wonderful working condition with just some normal wear but no bald spots but does have a bit of tearing at the base of his tail. That is one of the weak spots in most of these animals especially with the dog. The Roullet et Decomps factory made many wonderful animals and automatons such as lions, tigers, polar bears, elephants, pigs, dachshunds, boxers and of course poodles and many more along with some exquisite French automaton musical dolls with amazing movements. There were other companies that made automatons but I think the RD company made most along with the Vicky Company in France. He really does look like a poodle and is 16\" long to the tip of his tail and 14” to his butt and about 9\" tall. He has a metal and paper mache body and head and is covered in hide with a marvelous full, thick mohair curly mane. He has curly mohair on the upper part of his body and up his neck to the front of his face. He has fabulous fluffy longer ears that seem to blend in with the rest of his fur so at first I thought he didn’t have ears and he has the cutest fluff of curls at the end of his tail Pretty much has the look of the standard poodle that has a show cut without the fluffs of fur around his lower legs. His face is fabulous with original big glass eyes, a long muzzle with a wonderful big wet nose and a slightly open mouth with a hint of his tong sticking out. Again, the curly mohair on is neck and top of his head is excellent but I\'m sure a bit soiled with age. His body is covered in what looks like hide and has a soft almost fuzzy feel to it. There really isn’t much wear and there but no real holes or damage. His long tail is great again, with the same long curly mohair at the end but as you can see there is some tearing at the base of his tail and it looks like it’s stuffed with what looks almost like old hay. It could use a bit of attention but I’ll leave that to you. His legs look like they are wood covered in hide and in great condition. He actually has little carved claws on his paws and as you on the one paw a bit of the hide has come loose but easily glued by in place. He works great and has his original key which is really rare to find. When wound his legs move and he scampers across the floor. I have not wound him much for fear of over winding but he does work great. The mechanisms in these animals are the old, so even keys from antique clocks the correct size will also work. The key fits into the rod on his side and there is an on/off lever under his belly so you can turn him off and on. It’s best to let the animals unwind after playing with them as there is always a chance with something over 100 years old can just freeze up and stop working. He is a fabulous early Roullet et Decamps or RD Automaton Wind Up Dog and you almost never find them in this untouched working condition and without having any repairs. He has not had any work done to him as you can tell by looking at his tummy since it’s solid and this belly is firmly in place and not lose as you would find if someone had tried to remove that part to get into the clock work mechanism. This marvelous, rare, large, later 1800\'s Roullet et Decamps or RD Mechanical Wind Up Poodle Dog and he should sell for around $2200.00 but my reserve is less so don\'t let him scamper away. Lucky winner pays $30.00 S/I and international would be more. Email any questions and thanks for looking.
