DescriptionFRESH FROM AN OLD NEW YORK CITY COLLECTION.
A FANTASTIC LATE 17TH CENTURY SPANISH OR PORTUGUESE BULBOUS SHAPED \"PEWTER\" CAPSTAN CANDLESTICK IN NICE CONDITION. AND OLD COLOR
SPANISH OR PORTUGUESE, CIRCA 1680-1720 IN WONDERFUL ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH NO REPAIRS, ADDITIONS OR ALTERATIONS.
THESE VERY RARE CANDLESTICKS RARELY COME ONTO THE MARKET. WE SEE THE MORE COMMON BRASS EXAMPLES BUT THE PEWTER EXAMPLES DID NOT SURVIVE. MANY WERE MELTED DOWN IN THE 18TH CENTURY TO MAKE NEWER PEWTER PIECES.
Made in the typical 17th Century manner the underneath color is absolutely untouched with the cast marks still present.
The condition is WONDERFUL, just the minor dings and surface abrasions you would expect from over 300 years of use.
It is still tight.
THERE ARE NO REPAIRS OR RESTORATIONS. It has the typical old denting and bruising we see in these early pewter examples.
