Description:
This Punu mask from Gabon was picked up in Africa more than 50 years ago by a friend sailing in the merchant navy, and it was in this condition when it was found. It obviously spent decades out of doors to achieve this worn surface, probably 75 to 100 years old. It was carved in an open pored wood that is now light in color and not very dense, but that is, I assume, the result of age breaking down the cell structure. It is 11\" tall by 7 1/2\" wide.
