Up for sale is a 17th century Russian diptychicon. The medium is egg tempera on wood panel. Each panel is 9.5\" X 7\". The images have darkened with age but are still very visible. The bottom right image has had something spilled on it at some point in its life and makes the bottom half of the image very hard to see. The whole Icon is very impressive and screams old age. The hinges are looped wire that secure themselves through the whole panel of wood and can be seen coming through the back of the panels. At the top of the left panel one half of the original buckle remains. The whole piece smells like the great smell of old pipe Tobacco. On each of the images there is Russian Cyrillic in red. The only image I recognize of the four is St. Michael and archangel Gabriel on horseback spearing evil, this is the image that has had something spilled on it. The other images are of unknown saints.
