Offered is a spectacular massive hand carved English flame Mahogany what I believe is a gentlemen\'s smoking room sofa or couch. I really don\'t know that much about it as I purchased it in an estate back in 2000.The only info I have from the deceased owner is her journal that she kept of things she purchased. It isthe first entry and all it says is that on May 23rd 1961 she purchased an English Couch mahogany hand carved back hand carved lions. She paid $600 for it and insured it for $1500.00 back in 1961. Itis massive and probably weighs around 300 lbs. It is deep at 3 feet so it could even be a bed Iguess. Its 83 inches long. It is truly beautiful with the perfectly matched Mahogany veneers to create the perfect flame. It is mostly solid wood. The lions are really the masterpiece. On each arm there is a intricate detailed hand carved full body lion ina relaxed lounging position with a long flowing mane and precise details. The pictures do show how beautiful they are but not fully. They measure 2 ft long from tip of toes to the end of the curled tail. They are 7 inches across and are 11 inches tall. Each is identical and look like regal guardians. Sadly she also had it recovered in that crushed cut pattern velvet. Sad face!! It does not go with the boys and I wish it was original. Probably leather or horsehair?? She had it done in 1970. Personally I don\'t like those big bolster style square back pillows for the back. I don\'t think they are original but maybe?? I would lose them as they cover up most of the beautiful flame veneer mahogany that is matched perfectly. I would re-do it and just use some smaller pillows. It has cute carved bun feet and in the last picture it shows the construction. I could not find a makers mark or anything to give me a clue of who made it. A local appraiser gave me the info about the style and identifying the wood and also suggested a possible sellingprice. If anyone has any info or if I have stated incorrect information please let me know. I just think someone who owns a big beautiful home should have this masterpiece to display and show. Local pickup is great and I can have people here to help load it or the buyer will have to make arrangements to have it shipped or freighted at their expense.I will certainly assist and help all I can.
