Antique 18thc Georgian Peter & Jonathan Bateman Solid Silver Coconut Cup C.1790:
ANTIQUE 18thC GEORGIAN PETER & JONATHAN BATEMAN SOLID SILVER COCONUT CUP c.1790 Description
Antique 18th Century Super rare Georgian Solid Silver mounted Coconut Goblet, set on a circular silver pedestal foot with silver cup lining. This is a beautiful classic shape piece. Hallmarked English silver (925 Sterling) under the base and inside the cup, London, year 1790 (p), Maker's mark PBIB (Peter & Jonathan Bateman). Peter & Jonathan are sons of the famous female silversmith Hester Bateman, and they succeeded to her in 1790. They were working together only from 7th December 1790 to 19th April 1791, when Jonathan died of cancer. It means that they were only producing silver for 4½ months: that's why this mark is very rare, and very sought after by true collectors.
