ANTIQUE ROYAL DOULTON GIBSON GIRL COLLECTOR PLATE
From the \"A WIDOW AND HER FRIENDS\" series
In 1901 Royal Doulton produced a series of 24 collector plates by the American Illustrator, Charles Dana Gibson. Mr.Gibson was born in Roxbury, Mass. in 1867. He studied art in New York City. After a 2 year training period, he became an illustrator for such magazines as Harper\'s Weekly and Collier\'s. He also illustrated many books. In 1890, came the Gibson Girl. She was an example of the independent turn-of-the-century woman. Mr. Gibson published several books of his drawings including \"A Widow and Her Friends\" from which these plates were designed. There were originally 84 drawings in this book, Royal Doulton choosing 24 for their series.
The theme of this plate is \"And here, winning new friends and not losing the old ones, we leave her\". The widow, after trying to live and find herself after the death of her husband, has found her place as a Nun. This is the last plate in the \"A Widow and Her Friends\" series. Done with an arabesque border and rectangle black & white scene.
This plate is in wonderful pre-owned condition showing light to moderate utensil wear and crazing. No other issues are noted.
