The finest and rarest of hats, the Edwardian toque is much pictured in books about hats of the era but you seldom see one in person! I was so thrilled to own this hat for a few years; made of a moss green and brown ornately woven horsehair braid (it sort of looks like real moss ;-)) and rising high and straight above the head, this hat has a curved band of amber silk velvet snaking around with clusters of huge silk floribundi roses in ivory, ecru and brown. The way toques were constructed was to sit high on the crown but still drop down over it without touching the head much (except nearer to the top) so it fits quite securely on my 22.5 head while still maintaining a VERY tall wide presence much like the hats favored by Dame Maggie Smith in the series one episodes of Downton Abbey, and you know how much presence SHE has! This hat presents absolutely fantastically and would be a great wedding or high tea event accessory as well as being one of the holy grails of hat collectors everywhere. The exterior is just excellent condition-wise and the upper crown interior of black buckram is also excellent with maker mark in gold lettering; the sole issue is the very fine chocolate silk satin under the brim surround, which although in basically good condition to look at, has worn just at the edges to become detached from the hat and should be re-secured so none of it folds down over your forehead to spoil the exquisite lines. It\'s a small fix, on a big gorgeous hat. is a great place to find new and gently used quality clothing as well as rare vintage pieces you may have been searching for. I am always happy to take additional measurements. Because I do provide pertinent measurements I prefer not to take returns due to poor fit or buyer\'s remorse.
