ANTIQUE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX FOUR-PART ICON.

First half of 19th Century.

The importance of this icon is in its rarity of themes depicted here. At upper left - one of the most venerable icon of All-Russia - Kazan Mother of God; at right are Selected Saints: Simon, Guriy and Aviv; At register: left - The Seven Youth of Ephesus; right: The All-seeing Eye of God.

Material:Wood panel with a kovcheg (cut-back central portion), levkas (gesso).The icon painted in fine miniature of egg tempera technique against a gilt-silver ground.
Dimensions:height10 5/8 inches,width9 inches [27 cm x 22.5 cm]; thickness of the panel 9/8 inch[2 cm]
Condition: Good and stable state of preservation typical for the antique 19th Century Russian Icon. Two slats on verso are missing. See photographs.
