ANTIQUE 19th CENTURY THOMASON PATENT DOUBLE ACTION BRASS CORKSCREWTurned faux bone handle, 24cm long full extended In excellent Condition
This is a good example of a early Victorian corkscrew of the type first designed, and patented, by Edward Thomason in 1802, with brass barrel and flux bone handle would have contained a Brush. The mechanism centres around a \'double action helix\' where the user drives the screw, or worm, into the cork and then continues to turn the handle to gracefully pull the cork upwards. This one probably dates from c.1820 - 40.It is pictured above showing the overall condition you may notice in the pictures it is missing part of patent badge. The handle has no cracks but has got signs of wear and use the barrel its self has some marks. The corkscrew is in working order and the worm has a good point to it.Great item for a collector steeped in history and was a clever invention to pop the cork of fine bottles of wine.Check out my other items!INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE ASK ABOUT POSTAGE COSTS PRIOR TO offerDINGPostage to the US £15
