RARE antique 19th century Anglo-Indian carved sandalwood sewing box with brass & bone inlay work! Has a stepped rectangular top and side which feature elaborately carved animals amid floral and foliate decoration in sandalwood, all bordered by geometric inlay. The interior is also sandalwood and is divided into numerous comparments, some with carved bone fittings and additional sewing accoutrements; thimble, bobbin, pin cushion, etc. Has a velvet interior in deep purple and under the box is velvet in a hunter green. Measures 12 3/4 inches wide by 9 inches deep by 5 inches high. Has a locking mechanism but I have no key. There is loss to the inlay work and edging, some missing pieces inside, an interior top piece is cracked and poorly glued back together, and some of the wood corner pieces to the interior compartments have come unglued (please see photos and ask questions). BUT, this box sells for $3800 fully restored. I\'m selling at a very low price so someone with the money can have this treasure restored to its original condition.
