ANTIQUE 19thC VICTORIAN SAMPSON MORDAN SOLID STERLING SILVER PROPELLING PENCIL:

Description:

An antique Victorian solid silver propelling pencil, the end and collar hand engraved with typical foliate detail and a round carnelian agate seal to the end, made by Sampson Mordan & Co circa 1880. Internally the mechanism is pushed up using the collar around the middle of the pencil, and the end twists to extend more lead.

It isclearly hallmarked to the side S. Mordan & Co. and some additional letters afterwards, sadly illegible There are no other hallmarks but the casing tests as sterling silver.

Condition:

In good antique condition, the mechanism working well, but requiring lead in the pencil. The Sampson Mordan mark is partially worn, but legible. Please see the images provided which complement this description.
