Edo / Meiji Period, Mid 1800s GorgeousJapaneselow table or display stand with outstanding handlacquered takamakie decoration. Measuring a25 inches across, a very impressive piece.Featuringartistic and bold raised macki-e lacquer depicting scrolling grape vines, along with inlaid mother of pearl grapes.The images on this finetable are depicted in elegant, three dimensional raised takamakie and slender linework in subtle shades of gold and silver. The overall compositionis radiant against the deepblack urushi lacquerground. The table stands upon four curved legs which adds to the beautiful form. Exhibiting the traditional elegance of the Shogun era, this stunning stand is in beautiful antique condition exhibiting some wear commensurate with age. We note a few scuffs and scratches, and a tight split along the edge of the side skirt where it joins the top. Overall, the piece displays absolutely magnificently. Truly gorgeousEdo / Meijiperiod example of the fine attention to detail in Japanese lacquer ware in the age of the Samurai and Shogun.
