ANTIQUEENGLISHBASALT WARETEAPOTfeaturing a swan finial and NEOCLASSICAL scenes to the sides.It is impressed on the base : 2 (2 pint capacity).
This highly collectable TEAPOT is made of BLACK BASALT VITRIFIED STONEWARE in a body SIMILAR to the JASPERWAREmade famousby JOSIAH WEDGWOOD but it is unmarked by maker.
Shape and decoration indicate it was produced around 1790-1820 in GEORGIAN England.

DISPLAYS nicely but is not PERFECT.

The lid has been badly repaired and there are chips to the spout and hinge.The pin to hinge is missing.Light wear.NO crazing.However...Such an old and interesting and RARE (especially in Australia) teapot deserves a place in a QUALITY TEAPOT COLLECTION or in a good collection of GEORGIAN ceramics.
Measures c. 24cm long x 19cm high.Weighs 675 grams before packing.
