ANTIQUE BLOCK PRINTED WOOL SQUARE SHAWL mid 19th century:

The shawl has beencarefully stored in a small private collection of treasured textiles for manyyears which has served to preserve much of its original condition,however it has sadly suffered from moth damage.

I hung the shawl in front of a window to outline the damage/holes mostly top left corner.

Width edges have been turned and stitched.

A fine wool cloth with block printed design, ecru, red, gold brown and darkest navy in bands.

I have been unable to yield much in my research, the design is quite simplistic when compared to Victorian paisley printed shawls, could this be earlier and of Indian origin?

any further information appreciated.

108 x 106 cm.

This beautiful antique textile could be repaired/reinforced from the underside and displayed perhaps in a frame.
