We are pleased to offer this exceptional piece of antique or older vintage Italian Folk Art. Beautifully hand crafted and hand painted, this stunning and LARGE piece features wood construction with beautiful paper mache horse/steed. The piecedepictsthe horse pulling the chariot.The chaiot is made of wood and hand painted with a center \"gladiator or knight\" riding from a castle. The colors area cream (with yellow undertones)and red. The hand painting is very nicely done and it extends to the carved wooden wheels. The wheels arein curved segments that have been attached to one another. The gorgeous horse iscaptured in prancing mode. He is adorned with beautiful fabric which includes a large harness with feather plume and some gold cord. Behind is head is a very largeand ornate \"head dress\". It is a wooden frame withfabric cover and yarnfringe with tacks as accent.The horse and chariot are attached to a large, rectangular wooden base. The base is hand painted in the same color sceme as the chariot. I do not knowif the base is original to the piece or if it was added later. This is a very unique and ornate display piece. It is quite elaborate both in its decor and in its construction.
The cart has been constructed by a master craftsman. Both wooden wheels include 5 sections that have been put together. The wheels have a custom hub that has been made to fit exclusively for the wheels. The undercarriage/chassis is wonderfully constructed and held together by a series of brackets that fit perfectly. Bottome line is thatthe chariot/carriage was wonderfully engineeredby someone who knew exactly what they were doing.
The piece measures 41\" long and 19\" wide. It is 17.5\" tall with a 24\" height measurement at the headdress.
