Rare Chinese Scholar \'Duan\' Calligraphy Inkstone, Signed. Qing Dynasty, 19th Century. 8,400 Grams

Description: 19th century Chinese Scholar\'s writing inkstone, masterfully carved in bas relief, by a highly skilled professional carver, from a solid piece of Duan stone from Zhaoqing, Guangdong province in south China, beautifully patinaed in a smooth, satin sheen, hand-rubbed finish. The stone depicts a scene from Chinese literature of the Taoist Immortals \"Crossing the Sea\". They are three of the eight immortals - the Immortal Woman \'He Xian Gu\', the Patron Saint Musician with a crane \'Han Xiang Zi\', and the Royal Uncle Cao \'Cao Gou Jin, departing on a journey across the Bohai sea, using their magical powers to travel above the water\'s crested wake, shown in a landscape of cranes flying overhead in streams of clouds, and Penglai mountain-island in the far distance. The signed reverse is incised with a four-character seal mark, enclosed within a square. Circa: Mid 1800\'s, Qing Dynasty. ............Fantastic Chinese artistry.
