Description:

All Part of a museum deaccession of clothing… A wonderful gown….First let me say we did photos wrong on the mannequin… that picture shows the back of the gown…,Front of gown pic is second…in listing. Circa 1905 Edwardian, made up with layers of chiffon and irregularly shaped purple paillettes, with velvet waist, net and silk and large embroidered flowers and soem lace on edge of sleeves that might have been added later?. Measuring apprx 53-55” down front of gown..apprx.69-79” down the back from shoulder.. 16 or so” across chest.. 13” shoulder to shoulder…. waist is apprx. 26”,There is work needed on this gown… and as the gown is in strong condition, well worth for the dressmaker to do. there is some shredding in a few of the chiffon areas ,some loss of paillettes but the dress itself is very strong…displays beautifully.We have shown the worst part of chiffon.. most chiffon seems good.The under arms are missing some paillittes, but perhaps these can be used from some other places and spread out.Strong as a whole with inner silk lining …. so my thoughts , this item in the hands of someone who knows how to restore would be good and definitely worth repairing. So work needed….well worth doing.

Hi, I will try and give a more detailed description..inner purple silk lining seems okay..... , on the bodice underarms,on both sides ,there is loss of chiffon and paillettes..and two other small areas with loss of chiffon..seems about all that you would have to do.. on the skirt, one area at top needs reattaching and chiffon has some wear..at the bottom , there are two areas at bottom, one 4\" one 2 1/2\" chiffon needs replacing...a couple of areas near heel area ...and then there is one area near bottom of gown that is more serious..I think even though I am not adept in any way at sewing..that this are would need to have chiffon put in and then reattach palettes and embroidery, this seem to be the most serious area..think sheer weight of dress, this panel is the one with embroidery and paillettes and is on the bottom.. there are a few areas in this panel, when I try to piece together, it looks like it would be possible to redo this area..These are my thoughts, someone who is skilled.... could repair this gown as structure is inherently sound... but it needs work and expertise.Is it a gown for wearing to many parties.?. answer no... I think if fixed it could be worn. for a special occasion, just to be dazzling!!!.. but the value lies in how exceptional it is,.I know there are people who do these kind of repairs... as one of the people who was one my underbuyers was a restorer... so thanks for your comments... bottom line this needs work and skill and time.. hope I have helped.I have tried to list as best as I could, perhaps there are a few other smaller areas in chiffon..but the ones that matter are the ones I listed here.Although I do not repair, I can see if a item could possibly be saved by someone with experience.. anything else, I throw away, because it makes no sense to offer it.
