A fabulous Elizabethan period English reliquary ring. Made of solid 22 carat gold (tests thereabouts), the ring has a tapering body, stunningly finely impressed and engraved shoulders and its raised oval head is set with a relic of the blood of Christ inside a foiled rock crystal cabochon reliquary - it appears to hover within the stone.

Relics have been claimed throughout the history of Christianity, be it a fragment of bone or textile. Faith in their veracity pales into insignificance in the face of their personal and spiritual meaning, not to mention their historical significance. This is atrue museum piece and item of curiosity.

It dates from the mid-late 1500\'s and isinexcellent condition throughout, with only the lightest signs of age. It weighs 3.1 grams, the crystal measures 9 x 8 mm and its ring size is 8 ¼ US / Q UK - not resizeable due to its age. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coinfor scale, which measures19mm/ ¾ of an inchdiameter.
