This isan exquisite antique French handmade camisole dating, I believe fromC1920. The photographs do not do itjustice, it is completely wonderful.
It is inoyster brocatelle fabric, which gives the impression of embroidery in the samecolour. In-between the panels of fabricit has fabulous inserts of scalloped edged embroidered net lace. The same lace, edges the neckline and thehem.
Thefabric has been pleated at the top of the bodice and in the middle section,which just adds to the frou frou feminine look of this fabulous garment.
There aremachine stitches on the pleats but the cami has been hand sewn.
It hadquite a few storage marks when I found it but I gave it a very gentle wash andit came up beautifully. There may be theodd, very faint mark on it still but if there are any, they are not noticeableand they will remove with further laundering.
It is inexceptional condition for its age and I would hazard a guess that it has neverbeen worn. There are tiny little holesin some of areas of the lace but truly nothing that stands out, I am just tryingto give a concise description. The silk ribbonshoulder straps have shattered in places.
This is agloriously feminine garment and speaking to a French friend who knows abouttextiles and their history, she told me that this would have been made for avery special occasion, such as a wedding trousseau.
Thelength (not including the straps) is 60cms or 23½” long. The width across the top of the neckline is40cms or 15¾”.
