This is the second Kashkul I am selling( the second one of a near matching pair,one of which I have sold on recently )
A fine Antique Persian Sufi Qajar brass kashkul.In typical coco de mer form, with intricately hand workedand pierced decoration, of people in pursuits,the body with a band of Arabic script.
Size; 11 inches long ( 28 cm )
Condition; some small dents and tears, and holes to body,one end bent in, the other end missing, with rips and dents.Please study photos.Circa; 19th Century.

Kashkulsor oval begging bowls were used by dervishes as receptacles for alms. They were also made from coco-de-mer shell, of which one example is in The Nasser D. Khalili Collection, see Stephen Vernoit,Occidentalism, The Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art, Vol. XXIII, Oxford, 1997, p. 42, pl. 19.
