ANTIQUE NAVAJO RUG Ganado Wearing Blanket NATIVE AMERICAN Weaving Peach Red:

One of the most amazing antique Navajo rugs in my collection. This is about 100 years old. All natural wool. It is absolutely priceless. Here\'s why:

First, it\'s extra soft, real natural wool. What do I mean by soft? Well, in the mid to late 1800\'s, the Navajo had their own sheep. But with the influx of people from South of the border, came the Spanish churro sheep, which produced a softer, higher grade of wool for weaving textiles like this one. After the turn of the 20th century, when the Navajo started to get a bit more for their rugs, they also started doing fancier designs, and this is a fabulous, priceless example of early Navajo work. This was hand loomed, outdoors, the larger the size the longer it took to make. Measures57.5 inches long (nearly 5 feet) by 28 inches wide. A large veritable masterpiece. This piece could have taken an expert weaver months or even years to complete. The lazy lines are apparent in the piece, which is one way that experts can identify an authentic antique Navajo weaving. The selvage edge is also present. The tassel ends are long gone, which is to be expected on a piece this old.

There are a LOT of great things about this rug. First, it is softer than most. The wool is just devine in this one. I can tell you that because I get to touch these before they leave my hands, so I know what is special about each one. This just feels good to bare feet to walk on.

Also, the color scheme. The peach color background is very hard to find. I love it because it\'s like flesh color, so pretty and feminine. The light peach color appears white in the photos, but in person you can sell all this sublime shade of peach. It\'s mixed with the deep true red, and 3 shades of brown: the natural dark chocolatebrown (from a \"black\" sheep), the sienna medium brown, with a bit of variegated brown greyas well. In all the rugs I\'ve had and seen, I rarely find one with this beautiful peach wool in it, in fact, it\'s the only one this color scheme that I have in my collection right now, so don\'t miss out on this one.

As for the pattern, it\'s traditional Navajo. This hails from the Ganado region, which makes it more valuable. Collectors are always on the look out for this antique Ganado gems. Due to the influence of John Lorenzo Hubble, you see the dark border and the inclusion of this deep cochineal red. It\'s bold and beautiful. Hubble influenced the Navajo weavers (he spoke Dine fluently) by advising him that the more expensive Asian and Caucasion rugs he had seen in his travels had borders, as well at the inclusion of red, and the tribal weaversbegan to include more red in their rugs so they could get more for them at his trading post in Ganado. So to the winning buyer, hang on to this, you won\'t regret it.

Made somewhere near the Ganado region in Arizona between 1910 -1920. Westernerssettlingnear of traveling through the region on their way to Californiawere rapidly buying as many as they could get their hands on from trading posts. When Randolph Hearst started acquiring them during the roaring 20\'s or so, the prices really started to go up.

Sonot only is thisantique, and authentic Navajo, but you\'ve got theextra soft wool which increases it\'s\"wow\" factor, which increases its worth. Another element that increases its worth is the deep true red Cochineal red color natural wool. This cochineal red color, in my opinion, doubles the value of the piece. The red is so rich, it just makes the piece. The cochineal red color is also seen in most museum quality Chief\'s blankets from the transitional period, and it\'s prized by collectors because the red never fades, even after a century the red is still vibrant. Other colors include a dark chocolate brown (which reads black in the photos),peach (or light pinkish), plus the brown gray variegated wool which I love so much. The piece has a multiple row arrowhead design, the arrows fit into each other. Thus the pattern is traditional Navajo, just as they used to make them, arrows upon arrows all lined up in a row-- just exquisite!

The weaving is fine, tight, as opposed to coarse & loose. This has got some weight to it, it\'s dense, made to last. Also, when I lifted this, I noticed how thick and heavy it is. It weighs several pounds, far from flimsy this one is sturdy, something to write home about.

Overall it\'s in good condition for it\'s age because there are no major holes in the middle, no chunks taken out of it, no tears. No major soiling or stains either. The woolis top quality churro, hand carded.Note thereare a couplesmall frayed partsat the border & some minor issues, but this is to be expected for a rug of this age.Overall in good shape for its age.

Anearly 1900\'s eraAuthentic Native American Indian or First Nation artifact. This is unrepaired, unaltered, which preserves its collector\'s value.A rare find.

This was most likely a woman\'s wearing blanket, I can tell by the size and thickness, this was meant to be wrapped around a Chief\'s wife\'s shoulders to keep the bitter desert winds from chilling her during the tough winter months on the plains. Now, it makes a great wall hanging. You can also frame it under glass in a shadowbox frame if you plan to make a decorating centerpiece out of it for a special room.Due to the length, it could also be used as a runner. But for those of you who can appreciate how much time it takes to do these hand loomed, entirely handmade natural pieces, you already know thatthis is a valuable, authentic piece.

Both sides have also been photographed, it\'s reversible. An awesome, authentic Native American Indian made textile.

This would look fabulous hungin your living room, library, den or bedroom. It will add a Southwestern flair to any room. The style is earthy, natural, a fantastic Navajo heirloom. I love it and hope you do too. It\'s a rare beauty. Each piece has a bit of the personality of the weaver in it. An incredible work of art that will continue to appreciate with time.
