This is a very fine turn of the century painting of a forestby well known andlisted Russian - American artist Peter Plotkin.

Peter Plotkinwas born in Russia on April 1, 1879.He emigrated to the US in 1910.

Later hetaught art at the University of Texas in 1930 and by 1932 was settled in Pasadena.

He died there on January 1, 1960 (1879-1960).

The canvas and frame is in excellent condition.

The frame measures: 35\" by 27\" and the canvas measures: 26\" by 17 1/2\".

Eventhis painting should be a great investment in the future, you should buy it onlybecause you love it and it will gives you a great enjoinment and was born in Mogilev, Belarus Russia in 1879 to impoverished parents of Jewish descent. On March 13, 1881, Czar Alexander II was assassinated; his death was blamed on Jewish anarchists, and his successor Czar Alexander III order mass retribution against the Jewish people. The Russian \"progroms\" of 1881 to 1884 that were ordered by the Czar killed thousands of innocent Russian Jews, including Peter\'s parents, and immediate family. He was later adopted by a Russian aristocrat named Count Gunzberg, and was afforded all the luxuries that life could afford including the best education. Peter received an education in fine arts, literature, and dramatics from the Russian Royal University in St. Petersburg. It was during this time that Peter was befriended by literary giant, Leo Tolstoy. After graduation, Peter continued his education travelling to Paris, Rome, and London. He immigrated to the United States in 1910, residing in New York City for a period, until he was invited to Dallas, Texas in 1915. There he was commissioned to paint a mural on the walls of the Burton-Merritt house. He taught art and literature at Simmons University 1929-1931. After which he moved to Los Angeles, California. There he worked as a commercial artist and private art teacher. He opened his own art school in the late 1940\'s. His primary form of painting was with oil, and portraiture was a specialty. He was very religious and he painted numerous biblical scenes. In addition, he was painted many historical landscapes. In the late 1920\'s he was commissioned by the Hilton Hotel chain to paint several historical scenes for lobbies of their hotels, The Cossacks (1929), The Colonial Blacksmith (1929), King Solomon (1929), and The Landing of Henry Hudson (1929). He also painted full size portraits of the early presidents of McMurray College in Texas, as well as the following art work Lottie Moon (1927), a portrait of the first female Baptist missionary to China (it is on display at the Southwest Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky), Chaim Weitzmann (1948), the first president of Israel, George Washington as a Mason (1950), Robert E.
