ANTIQUE RARE HEUBACH GERMAN BISQUE BLACK AMERICANA YOUNG MINSTREL:
$385.00

THIS PIECE IS FOR THE TRUE COLLECTOR OF GERBRUDER HEUBACH FIGURINES!
THIS IS RARE AND UNUSUAL GERBRUDER HEUBACH GERMAN BISQUE FIGURINE OF A BLACK MINSTREL YOUNG MAN.
THIS IS A PIECE THAT MY STEP-FATHER HAD FOR WELL OVER 60 YEARS.
I BELIEVE THIS CUTE YOUNG MAN IS ONE OF THREE BLACK FIGURINES FROM A SET. THIS FIGURINE IS 8\" TALL, THERE WAS ANOTHER THAT WAS 9\" TALL AND THE LAST ONE WAS 10\" TALL.
HE HAS A LONG PALE YELLOW AND DUSTY PINK TUXEDO, A RUFFLED WHITE SHIRT, GOLD BUTTONS AND WHITE PANTS WITH BLUE STRIPES THAT HAS A GLAZE OR SHINY APPEARANCE. HE HAS BLACK CURLY HAIR AND IS HOLDING A TOP HAT WITH A PINK FLOWER. HIS HANDS AND EARS HAVE SO MUCH DETAIL, AS WELL AS, HIS FEATURES AND EXPRESSION IN HIS FACE MAKING HIM LOOK AMAZINGLY REAL.
THIS FIGURINE IS MARKED \"MADE IN GERMANY\" ON THE BOTTOM AND HAS THE \"SUNBURST\" MARK ON THE BACK OF HIS COAT. UNDER THE SUNBURST, GH AND DEP MARK, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN THE ARTIST\'S INITIALS, BUT IT\'S TOO WORN TO DECIPHER. THIS PIECE WAS MADE BETWEEN 1882 AND 1910. GEBRUDER HEUBACH REGISTERED ITS \"SUNBURST\" MARK IN 1882.
BACK IN 1999 WE INQUIRED ABOUT THIS FIGURINE FROM SOMEONE WHO IS FAMILIAR WITH GEBRUDER HEUBACH PIECES. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT IS A VERY UNUSUAL YOUNG MAN DRESSED AS A MINSTREL FOR THE STAGE. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY A BLACK YOUNG MAN WOULD BE DRESSED IN THAT ERA AS HE WOULD NOT HAVE HELD HIS HAT IN THIS WAY FOR ANYTHING BUT THE STAGE.
THE ONLY \"FLAW\" I FOUND ON THIS PIECE IS EITHER PAINT WAS MISSED OR FROM WEAR AROUND THE UNDER PART OF HIS SHOES, AS IT\'S NOT SEEN WHEN HE IS STANDING.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF GERMAN ARTISTRY THAT MY STEP-FATHER HAD IN HIS POSSESSION SINCE THE EARLY 1900\'S. THIS PIECE HAS NOT BEEN CLEANED IN YEARS, SO THERE IS DUST IN THE CREVICES. WE WILL LEAVE THE CLEANING UP TO ITS NEW OWNER WHO WILL PROBABLY KNOW HOW TO CLEAN HIM BETTER THAN WE DO.

History of Gebruder Heubach: The company, which translates as Heubach Brothers, wasestablished in 1843 by Georg Christoph and Phillipp Jakob Heubach when they purchasedan existing porcelain factory in Lichte, Germany. The company began to manufacture items such as householdpottery, figurines and novelties, and in 1863 opened a local art school forsculptors. This training led to the company becoming renowned for its highquality and lifelike figurines, including their range ofpiano babieswhichare highly sought after by modern collectors. The company registered its ‘sunburst’ mark in 1882, and by 1910have begun to produce bisque dolls, along with bisque doll heads for othermanufacturers across Europe and the United States. By 1938 the company was forced to close and file for bankruptcy

Collecting Heubach figurines: When it comes to Heubach figurines, it can be difficult to findinformation about particular models as there are no original records to showeither production dates or numbers. Their designs range from children andinfants to animals such as dogs and birds, all of which are characterized bytheir high quality of painting and like-like sculpture.
