Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker

Age: 19th Century.

Medium:The riza is fullyHallmarked on the halo, on the background and on the vestment at the bottom. The hallmarks are: 84 ;1. I. Aand one more hallmark is not very clear, looks like a head in the profile. The silver icon is inserted in an old wood panel.

Technic:Repoussé,method of decorating metals in which parts of the design are raised inrelieffrom the back or the inside of the article by means of hammers and punches. Definition and detail added from the front bychasingor engraving.

Size:Framed height 4 1/4\" width 3 1/2\"[10.5 cm x 9 cm]; thickness of the panel 1 inch [2.5 cm]

Silver Riza size: 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 [8 cm x 6.5 cm]

His reputation evolved among the faithful, as was common for early Christian saints.In 1087, part of therelics(about half of the bones) were furtivelytranslatedtoBari, inApulia, Italy; for this reason, he is also known asNikolaos of Bari.
