c.1890 SWISS RAILWAY STATION MUSIC BOX
For many years, beginning in the 1890\'s, the waiting rooms of most Swiss railway stations had these \"station boxes\" to provide musical and visual entertainment for travelers. These coin-operated wonders were and assembled and maintainedby entrepreneurs such as Henri Vidouvez or August Lasseur, and then leased to the railroad for a share of the profits. Eventually removed from serviceafter many years, most were worn out and scrapped, but others, such as these, were reclaimed and restored to their original function and beauty by the famous Baud Freres workshop in L\'Auberson, now part of the world famous Baud Museum.
