This is a beautiful EarlyVictorian Cameo of Apolo’s love Daphne.
The carving is ofsuperior quality, with fairly high relief. The colour of the shell is
used skilfullyto highlight the laurel leaves and folds in her dress.
This is a beautiful piecewith an unusual engraved scroll mount in 9ct Gold.
The rear has an extended*steel pin with a c clasp.
In excellent condition,there are no stress marks or cracks to the piece.
Size is: 4.5cm (1 ¾”)high x 1 ½” (just short of 4cm) wide.
*Extended pins on brooches are oftena good indicator of period. The pins were made longer and extended beyond theedge of a brooch to accommodate the thicker Victorian fabrics that were pre1880’s
