This is a very beautiful and substantial sterling silver collarorbook chain, with it\'s original shaped locket.
Total weight of chain and locket is a very heavy 95 grams. Circa 1880\'s
The chain and locket are unmarked (was usual for this period)but have been tested andguaranteed as sterling silver.
The chain measures approx. 45.5 cms or 18\" in length, by 23mmsor 1 inch wide (including the inner and outer balls).The chain links are circular pierced drums interlocked.Very wide, spectacular collar, hard to find design.Looks fantastic worn by itself as a collar.
The locket is suspended from the collar by two bolt rings anda drop chain.Of course it can be worn with this extra drop chain or without.It is great to have this original extra piece, that are often lost over the years.
The locket is engraved finely on both the front and back, and hasnot been personalised on the rear where the cartouche is.The locket measures 36 mms or 1 &1/2 inches (excluding the bale)by 26 mms or 1 inch.
Excellent original condition, the inner glass has been replaced withprofessionally cut perspex.
A top quality piece.
PLEASE NOTE!The photo inside the locket shows most likely the first owner ofthis piece,wearing this same collar and locket.I would imagine that after her passing, a daughter or relativewould have put her photo in to wear and remember her by.
