For your collection I have a circa. 1890\'s original antique "Remarque Proof" Intaglio drypoint/copperplate etching by Listed Artist~Edward Loyal Field (1856-1914). Hand-pulled and pencil signed by Listed Artist and etcher J. Haller(19th-20th Century)in the lower right margin.

Many Original Etchings by E.L. Field were Signed by J. Haller when Haller inked and pulled the etching off the plate. The only time Fields signed an etching is when he pulled it himself. This particular example is a “Remarque Proof” meaning it was the first to be printed from the plate. A separate, miniature etching within the lower margin signifies this. See the detailed last photo-(sorry a bit of glass glare) of Remarque sketch in lower right margin.(Interesting.. the remarque sketch is of details of the rooftops of cottages etc). There may also be copyright information beyond the matted area. That would be common, however it is being sold as shown-re-matted tightly to the image and in better conserved condition than most I have seen.

Edward Loyal Field, American, 1856-1914

Edward Loyal Field, was a tonalistlandscape painter and etcher, and was born in Galesbury, Illinois. He was a student at the Academie Julian in Paris, and debuted as an exhibitor at the National Academy of Design in 1887. He submitted artworks regularly until 1911, with titles that reflect trips to the Catskills and a deep affinity for pastoral, often autumnal, scenery. In 1899 he became a member of the Salmagundi Club, and was awarded the Inness Prize and the Shaw Prize at the club’s 1904 and 1905 exhibitions, respectively. Field exhibited his art in major exhibitions in Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Chicago and San Francisco. Field’s work can be found in the Columbus (Ohio) Museum of Art, The Butler Museum of American Art, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Holyoke Museum, the Jersey City Museum, and the Nutley (N.J.) Museum.
